It is possible to encode files starting with dash in FLAC. The file starting with a dash is treated as an option; but you can use ‘–‘to signify the end of options, and the start of filenames. You could try some of the free programs for testing hardware and if you have a verify error that occurs at the same place all the time, you could file a bug and get the problem solved. You may wonder why the same file that is compressed on different machines having the same options all produce the same FLAC file.

Though this happens frequently, it is not supposed to. However its occurrence does not signify that encoding was bad. It is because there are variations between different machines and different builds of FLAC on the same machine. All this leads to slight difference in the FLAC file, even if they have the same final size.
